April 13, 2001, Newsletter Issue #13: Strategies for Caregivers to Enjoy the Little Things

Tip of the Week

Little things were so important to me.

I have always heard that something good DOES come out of something bad. During my dad`s illness and death, I was able to understand the meaning of this statement, and to appreciate it!

Remember Three Little Things:
1 You are not alone.
2 Never be hesitant to ask for help from friends, family, or others.
3 Make the most of each day, by being good to yourself.

As We Age, We Learn to Appreciate the Little Things in Life

When becoming a caregiver, you may discover a few improvements within yourself. You may discover:

You are praying more, or believing in your faith.
You may arrange your schedule to meet care-giving responsibilities.
You may discover that you no longer get as angry as before
Maybe you find yourself with a newfound compassion, or a new appreciation for the elderly or frail. You might discover just how precious life is.
Maybe you have learned to forgive, forget, and go on with your life!

I have a confession. I found a new me, when I became a caregiver. Mostly, I learned to forgive and forget, and to make the most of every day, regardless of the time left in it.
I cherished my time with my father, my husband, and my family.
